Welcome Reception

The welcome reception will be held at the Symposium Hotel on July 11th, 2011.

Gala Dinner 

Gala Dinner of the 6th International Symposium on Linguistic Politeness will be held on July 12th, 2011 at the Symposium Hotel. Registration is required for the gala dinner. Price for the gala dinner is 40 € per person. You can register for the gala dinner from the online registration module.

Ankara City Tour (10th and 14th of July, 2011)

Half Day Tour (30 Euro /pp)

The meeting point of the tour is the Symposium  Hotel at 11 am, where participants take the bus to the Anatolian Civilizations Museum, exhibiting gold, silver, glass, marble and bronze works date back as far as the second half of the first millennium BC. Then, they walk to the Ankara Castle, built by the Romans, then repaired and expanded by the Selçuk in order to guard the city for centuries, is now a symbol of Ankara and its history is as old as the city itself. Continuing the tour, the bus will take the participants to the Mausoleum of Atatürk, the founder and leader of the republic. The Anýtkabir Museum is located between the Tower of the National Pact and the Tower of the Revolution. A number of Ataturk's personal belongings are exhibited, including clothes that he wore, and gifts presented to him by visiting foreign dignitaries.

After enjoying the wonderful panoramic view of the city, the bus will take the participants back to the conference venue.

Gordion Tour (14th of July, 2011)

Departure by bus from the Symposium Hotel at 11 am for Gordion, once the capital of the Phyrigians, where there are almost a hundred tumulus graves of notables who lived and died between Phrygian and Galatian times. Visitors will also see the largest tumulus grave that has been identified as belonging to King Midas, who was famed in Greek mythology as the possessor of the golden touch, The tumulus still contains some wooden furniture, probably from his palace. The next stop is the Acropolis and then to the local museum, where there are some remnants from the surroundings, though the main findings are on display in the Anatolian Civilizations Museum in Ankara. After a 5-hour tour, the participants will arrive back in the city at approximately 4pm.

Beypazarý Tour (14th of July 2011)

The bus will depart from the Symposium Hotel at 11 am. After 1.5 hours of scenic driving, it will arrive in Beypazarý. Beypazarý is small town and is situated on the historical Silk Road, with about 3000 existing wooden houses. The Beypazarý tour starts with Hýdýrlýktepe, a panoramic hill overlooking Beypazarý, a good photo opportunity. The tour continues with a stroll on Aladdin Street, a unique place where local Beypazarý style houses can be seen. Next in the program will be the Yaþayan Müze. The museum features local handcrafts such as needlepoint, embroidery, jewellery, copperware and woodcarving. Our next stop will be the Aladdin Mosque, dating back to the Selçuklu period. After visiting the Aladdin Street area, we then visit the Silversmith's Market to see some examples of locally made silver handicrafts. After a 6-hour tour, the participants will arrive back in the city at approximately 5pm.
